When you’re moving to a new area, it can be hard finding the perfect house or flat, and we are well positioned to help you with exactly that.

But as well as finding the perfect property, most people want to know what’s on offer in the area, what they can do for entertainment, and what’s around for the kids. So, we decided to help with that too.

Here are 10 of the region’s best loved entertainment and shopping venues. They’re all great places, although there are lots of others:

Whatever form of entertainment you’re looking for you will find it at Xscape, the one-stop venue for shopping, eating and all kinds of family entertainment. You’ll find tenpin bowling, cinema, climbing walls and snow slopes, adventure golf, 3-D rides, gyms and night time entertainment too. Many big retail names are here and next door at junction 32 shopping village.

Junction 32

Yorkshire’s biggest and best outlet village offering the ultimate shopping experience with all the big names including M&S, Le Creuset, Next, Regatta, Monsoon, Clarks, and many more. You can also take the kids for a game of adventure golf or visit the cinema, and there are places to grab a coffee or snack when you feel like a break.

Farmer Copleys

Farmer Copleys is far more than just a farm, it’s a great country experience where, as well as picking up great fresh produce from the farm shop, fishmonger, or gift barn and florist, you can also take part in special events. There is the pumpkin festival, strawberry picking in season, and the chance to get lost in their very own corn maze, which is always a great attraction.

Diggerland

This is the UK theme park where you can try your hand at driving dumper trucks, getting some JCB experience on a six ton digger, or go 50 feet in the air for great views from the Sky Shuttle. It is the only place you can legally drive, ride or operate full-sized construction machinery without spending thousands getting a licence. It’s great fun for all the family, or for large and small groups of friends.

Pontefract Castle

Dating back to 1070 and in ruins since 1644, Pontefract Castle attracts a drove of visitors every year especially to the magazine, otherwise known as the dungeon or military store. Tours are available Wednesday to Sunday and it’s a good, creepy slice of history to visit. Every July there is a picnic in Pontefract Castle, which is a free event with lots of entertainment including Viking re-enactments, dancing dogs and acrobats.

There are lots of events throughout the year at Pontefract Park including circuses and funfairs, cross-country races and family fun days.

Pontefract Races

Pontefract racecourse is a full two and a half mile circuit, with regular meetings between April and October every year. In all, 16 race meetings complete each season and there are three family fun Sunday meetings which make for a great day with the kids.

Hemsworth Water Park

Another fantastic location for great family days out, Hemsworth Water Park has two lakes offering pedalo rides, paddle boarding, canoeing, and even its own sandy beaches. The smaller of the lakes is secluded and peaceful, attracting wildlife. Both lakes are suitable for fishing all year round. Within the water park is also an adventure playground for kids of all ages, and includes a toddler sandpit, climbing frames and a tower slide. There is also a miniature railway to ride on.
